Gmail gets pretty, oh so pretty, with new themes

Google's Gmail is better known for its utility than the way the Web-based e-mail service looks, but that's changed. Google has enabled themes and it makes the service much more pleasant to use.

Google is rolling out the new themes to users, and most should have it by now. If not, just wait a while. If the feature has arrived for you, you'll see a banner across the top of your inbox.

Once you've got the feature, click on Settings and then the Themes tab. From there you can choose from 31 different looks.

Some have images; most don't. I think the themes with background images look a little tacky, but that's just me.

What does it say about me that the first theme that attracted me was called, um, Cold Shower. I found it a little bland, and finally have settled on the Shiny theme.

Of course, the original, minimalist look is still available. And for those who are even more retro, there's even a theme that makes your Gmail look like it's being read on a green-screen terminal.

If you're a Gmail user, which theme have you settled on?
